Selecting Overview → Analytics → Insight Analytics Flow Ports → Port Status displays the Port Status dashboard. The Port Status tab is highlighted.

Usage Note: Before any analytics are collected, a fabric must be added and a valid license must be installed and activated.

Port Status is useful to determine the type and quantity of network traffic moving through the ports on your switches.

This information is helpful to analyze the network traffic and identify ports with a large amount of network traffic.

The Port Status tab displays the following information:

Histograms

  • Input Traffic (Packets) – the quantity of incoming packets over a specified time.
  • Output Traffic (Packets) – the quantity of outgoing packets over a specified time.
  • Input Traffic (Bytes) – the quantity of incoming traffic in bytes over a specified time.
  • Output Traffic (Bytes) – the quantity of outgoing traffic in bytes over a specified time.
  • Input Problems (Total Packets) – displays the sum of input packets discarded, with errors, and dropped due to congestion.
  • Output Problems (Packets) – displays the sum of output packets discarded, with errors, and dropped due to congestion.

Correlated Switch Ports

By entering a Source IP, Destination IP or Destination Port in the Quick Search Box you can correlate switch ports and you can view which ports are being used in the connection flow matching.

For example, suppose your switch has port stats for all ports (9,10,17,18, etc.) and you want to see ibytes, obytes, ierrors, and idiscards for a specific port (say port 9) then you can click on input port locator port 9 in widget “Top Ports Input Traffic".

All widgets in the port status display all other graphs per the input port locator selected.

Pie and Bar Charts

  • Top Ports Input Traffic (Packets) – displays the quantity of input traffic by switch name and port number.
  • Top Ports by Client Connections – displays the top ports by client connections by switch name and port number.
  • Top Ports Output Traffic (Packets) – displays the quantity of output traffic by switch name and port number.
  • Top Ports by Server Connections – displays the top ports by server with the highest number of connections in descending order.
  • Input Problems by Ports – displays the sum of input packets discarded, with errors, and dropped due to congestion.
  • Top Ports by Client – displays the devices connected to the network by client IP address in descending order.
  • Output Problems by Ports – displays the sum of output packets discarded, with errors, and dropped due to congestion.
  • Top Ports by Server - displays the devices connected to the network by server IP address in descending order.

Insight Analytics Flow Port Status Pie Charts for Input and Output Traffic and Connections

The Port Status panel displays histograms in addition to pie charts. The histograms display a distribution of input and output packet sums over a period.

Each widget contains a pie chart with a color legend that labels each slice of information with a specific color. When you place your cursor over a name in the legend, the corresponding slice is highlighted in the pie chart. Also, when you place your cursor over a slice, a summary of the information generating the slice is displayed.

You can drilldown into the data by selecting any widget in the dashboard and clicking on an area of interest.

Search and Filtering functions work in an identical manner as described under the Insight Analytics Flow Search & Filtering section.

The Insight Analytics Flow Port Status Details pane displays connection data by switch name.
