General Features of the Topology Map Dashboard

Selecting Overview displays a menu with Topology and Dashboard.

UNUM Dashboard Overview

The UNUM Overview display provides a convenient way to quickly access all applications and configuration parameters used in UNUM.


Note: Selecting Overview → Topology displays information about a Fabric assuming a fabric was created and added. For more information about creating and adding a Fabric please refer to the ZTP - Zero Touch Provisioning section in this manual.



Fabric Dashboard

Selecting Overview → Dashboard → displays important information about the Fabric devices and/or individual devices within the Fabric.


Select the desired Fabric from the left side navigation bar and the dashboard updates showing all Device entries from all switches within the Fabric.


The dashboard displays:


  • Top 10 Switches by Memory Utilization (%)
  • Top 10 Switches by CPU Utilization (%)
  • Alarms
  • Global Fabric Resources
  • Top 5 Interfaces by Link Bandwidth Utilization (%)
  • Top 5 Interfaces by Total Errors and Congestion Drops
  • Top 10 Switches by vFlow Hardware Table Utilization
  • Top 10 Switches by MAC Hardware Table Utilization
  • Top 10 Switches by IPv4 Routes Hardware Table Utilization
  • Top 10 Switches by Host Routes Hardware Table Utilization


for the entire Fabric.


Additional parameters include: Input and Output by port number, Alarm by type along with visual indicators providing critical information about switch load, interface traffic and interface errors in Red, Yellow or Green.

Each display in the dashboard includes a blue information button .  Rolling over this button provides the polling time interval for the widget.

Rolling over sections of the pie chart reveals information by Switch name about Memory and CPU usage: cpu-idle, cpu-user and cpu-sys, as well as a Date and Time stamp.

Select a desired switch from the fabric and the dashboard updates automatically and displays a list of:

Histograms for Hardware Utilization

Rolling over a histogram provides additional information about the individual switch.

The UNUM Fabric Dashboard provides direct links to Fabric Management data and settings by rolling over and clicking on data points in the dashboard.  

For example, clicking in the Alarms section on a data point takes you to the Syslog dashboard and automatically applies a filter for the data point selected.

Clicking on data points and graphics within the Global Fabric Resources section reveals dashboard information about Active Endpoints, VLANs, VRF, VNI and VXLAN Tunnels and automatically applies a filter for the data point selected as illustrated in the following examples:

NOTE:  In the above figure, the VLAN widget is empty and displays "No results found".   In some fabrics, all of end-points can be mapped to VXLANs.  

Since the VLAN can be different on both sides of a VXLAN tunnel, the VLAN information is not carried in the vPort entry.

In a similar way to clicking on data points and graphics within the Global Fabric Resources section, Hardware widgets reveal switch-specific dashboard information by Leaf or Spine about vFlows, Forwarding Tables and Host Routes. 

Clicking on the individual bars in the histograms launches the respective dashboard as illustrated in the following example:

Topology

Selecting Overview → Topology displays important information about the Fabric devices and/or individual devices within the Fabric within a topology map or multiple topology maps depending on the number and fabrics and the connectivity between fabrics.



Note: Selecting Overview → Topology displays information about a Fabric assuming a fabric was created and added. For more information about creating and adding a Fabric please refer to the ZTP - Zero Touch Provisioning section in this manual.



Labels

Device names are toggled by checking Labels. When Labels is unchecked device names are suppressed from the topology display.

Device Zoom, Link Highlight and PN Switches Only are useful functions when displaying complex topology maps and are mutually exclusive in the Dashboard.

Topology Map Search

A Search feature allows you to quickly locate nodes by Name, IP, Trunk or VLAN.

Enter the desired search text in the search field. The results field updates automatically when a search criteria match is found.

Select the desired search result.

The search results are highlighted by a dashed green circle. Multiple criteria matches result in multiple dashed green circles.

To clear the search field, click the icon.

Device Zoom

To focus on a device select the desired device from the left side navigation bar. With Device Zoom unchecked you are able to freely move and resize the device and topology map as shown in the following example.

With Device Zoom checked you select the desired device from the left side navigation bar and the display updates to position the selected device in the center of the browser pane thus creating focus on the specific device as show in the following example.

After focusing on the device you are able to freely move and resize the device and topology map to suit your needs.

Link Highlight

To view connection links between a specific device and other nodes select the desired device from the left side navigation bar and check Link Highlight. The display will update showing only those connections going to and from the selected device to the other nodes.

PN Switches Only

To view only Pluribus Networks switches select the desired device from the left side navigation bar and check PN Switches Only. The display will update showing only Pluribus Network switches.

Clicking on Show Legend in the dashboard displays a detailed list of icons and their meanings.

Connections between devices are represented in the topology map as solid and dashed lines, thickness denoting bandwidth. The thicker the line, the higher the bandwidth.

When multiple connections exist the number of connections, e.g. (2) the designator  is displayed on the line as shown in the example.

The signifies the switch/router contains vPorts.

You click on the number to display details of the connection type along with Port Number and bi-directional traffic being passed over the connection between the two devices in terms of percentage.

A Search feature allows you to quickly locate traffic connections by Port Number or Speed.

Enter the desired search text in the search field. The results field updates automatically when a search criteria match is found.

Select the desired search result.

The search results are displayed.

To clear the search field, click the icon.

In the event multiple connections exist between two devices where one of the devices is not a Fabric node and you double click on the icon to obtain more detailed information about the device you will see the following message.

Further, if multiple connections exist between two devices where one of the devices is not a Fabric node and you click the connections number the details pane will display “No Information Available”.

Double clicking on a device in the Topology map displays information about the selected device.

Clicking on Device Details updates the display to provide extensive details about the specific device including: Hardware, Software, License, Transceivers and General information.

Additional details about the Fabric and the associated switch are displayed.


Visual Status Indicators

  • State - online/offline with green, red and alarm indicators.
  • CPU, stated in terms of percentage with green, yellow, red indicators.
  • Memory, stated in terms of percentage with green, yellow, red indicators.


CPU and Memory %  Color Code Logic :

If the percentage  is >=0  and < 70 the status condition is Green.

If the percentage  is >=70 and < 90 the status condition is Yellow.

If the percentage  is >=90 and <= 100 the status condition is Red.

If a Switch is offline the discovery status of a switch is shown as Offline and the dashboard displays a dashed line replacing the color and percentage indicators.

A Discovery Detail visual indicator alerts you to a potential error condition. Click on the  icon to review the error condition,

Clicking on Link Details updates the display to display details of the connection type along with Port Number and bi-directional traffic being passed over the connection between the two devices in terms of percentage. Multiple entries are sorted using the Search feature to drilldown on Port Number, Speed, etc.

To configure Port Properties click on any of the ports listed in the dashboard.

The Mac address of the port is displayed along with the current configuration settings.


Select the desired setting changes and enter a Description.


Click Save to continue or Cancel to return to the previous screen without applying any changes.


vPorts


The  icon signifies the switch/router contains vPorts and clicking on the icon updates the dashboard with expanded details of the vPorts on the device.

The vPorts tab displays IP Address, MAC Address, Ports, VLAN, Host Name, Status, Entity, vSwitch, VS-Type, Port Group and Vnic-Type.

You sort the list of vPorts in the vPorts Management dashboard using the up / down  arrows above each of the columns to display the information in a convenient fashion.

When you click on any link within the vPorts Dashboard other than the IP Address you are re-directed to the Connections Ports dashboard containing analytic data based on the filter created by the specific link selected.

Note in the following example the dashboard filter auto-populates with the srcSwitchPort OR dstSwitchPort number and the switchName when selecting Port from the vPorts dashboard.

A Search function provides a useful method of searching and refining list information. You begin by entering criteria in the Search box.


Filtering functions work in an identical manner as described under the Common Features - Search & Filtering section.

vPorts Flow Trace

Select Flow Trace to perform a trace of the packet flow using the Insight Analytics IP based Flow Filter.

To create a Flow Filter enter the required parameters which include:


  • Source IP  / Port – source IP address and source Port
  • Destination IP / Port – destination IP address and destination Port
  • Last "N" minutes – select the desired collection period in terms of last minutes


Click Flow Trace or Connections to continue or Cancel to return to the previous screen without applying any changes.


Selecting Connections takes you to the Insight Analytics Flow Connections dashboard.


Alternatively, clicking on any link in the dashboard other than the IP Address takes you to the Insight Analytics Flow Connections dashboard as well.


Selecting Flow Trace updates the Topology Map with an animated Flow Trace visual indicator showing the beginning and end points of packet flow and the hops between the devices.

Topology Map Group Switches


You select multiple switches while holding your "Command" or "CTRL" key on your keyboard and create a "group" of switches and move them to a desired location within the dashboard.

While holding your "Command" or "CTRL" key on your keyboard selected the desired switches for the group. A blue dotted circle appears indicating the switch is selected.

When all the desired switches are selected you release the "Command" or "CTRL" key. Move the "grouped" switches to the desired location within the dashboard.

Once the drag operation is complete, you click the "C" key to clear the selection.

Topology Search Feature

A Search function provides a useful method of searching the Fabric topology to locate specific switches and nodes. You begin by entering criteria in the Search box.

Enter your search criteria for Name, IP Address, Trunk or Vlan and click the  icon.


The search results are displayed in the Topology map dashboard by switch and highlighted by a green dashed circle.

You enter additional search criteria and the topology map is updated accordingly in a cumulative mode.

To delete the topology map dashboard search results, delete any search criteria in the Search box and and click the  icon.


A vPorts Search function provides a useful method of searching and refining list information.

You begin by entering criteria displayed in any of the available columns and the dashboard updates automatically.

Switch Analytics Dashboard

You click on any Port, VLAN, other than an IP Address link in the display dashboard to access and obtain detailed information from the Switch Analytics dashboard as shown below.

When you select an IP Address link you are prompted to create an IP Based Flow Filter.

Selecting Connections takes you to the Insight Analytics Flow Connections dashboard.


Alternatively, clicking on any link in the dashboard other than the IP Address takes you to the Insight Analytics Flow Connections dashboard as well.

Topology Map Multi-Fabric Support

For those Fabrics connected to other Fabrics the map will merge the Fabrics into a single display and show the inter-connected switches and routers on a merged map as illustrated below.

Connections between devices are represented in the topology map as solid and dashed lines, thickness denoting bandwidth. The thicker the line, the higher the bandwidth.

While holding your "Command" or "CTRL" key on your keyboard clicking on a Fabric topology within the Multi-Fabric dashboard will collapse the topology map.

Repeating the sequence will restore the topology map.

You select multiple switches while holding your "Command" or "CTRL" key on your keyboard and create a "group" of switches and move them to a desired location within the dashboard.

A blue dotted circle appears indicating the switch is selected.

Once all the desired switches are selected you release the "Command" or "CTRL" key.

Now you move all the "grouped" switches to the desired location within the dashboard.
